The Turks and Caicos AIDS Awareness Foundation (TCAAF) was founded in December of 2003 by a group of individuals who lost friends and family members to AIDS.  The patron of the organization is Honorable Galmo Williams, who along with other founding members, wanted to fight the spread of this disease.

The mission of the TCAAF is to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma and discrimination associated with HIV and AIDS through education and community participation to affect positive lifestyle and behavioral changes. In addition, the TCAAF supports the efforts of the Turks and Caicos National AIDS Program.

The TCAAF is a non-profit organization, funded entirely though donations. Through successful fundraising efforts such as the annual World Aids Day Dinner, the Jadot Cup Golf Tournament and the Horse Racing night hosted by Price Water House Coopers, the TCAAF has raised enough money to establish a youth centre in Providenciales. This youth center is now run independently of the TCAAF and serves the young people of the island.

Edward C. Gartland Youth Centre

ECGYouthCenterTCAAF is an independent parent body to the Edward C. Gartland (ECG) Youth Centre, which itself is an independent, non-governmental, non-profit facility that aspires to “Empower the Spirit of Youth.” The ECG Youth Centre opened its doors in November 2008 to young people between 11 and 18 years of age.

The Youth Centre offers a wide range of free extra-curricular activities with a focus on empowering young people with skills, information and confidence in a safe and inspiring environment. Since education is a key focus for the TCAAF, it dedicates time to implementing informative and fun programs at the ECG Youth Centre that engage young people and help dispel myths about HIV/AIDS.
